TEHRAN -- Islamic Revolution Guards Corps Commander Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari has reiterated his view that foreign elements were behind the plot to cast doubts about the results of the June 12 presidential election.

The plot was hatched by spy networks and counter-revolutionary groups based outside Iran but certain people inside Iran also became involved, Jafari said at a meeting with Basij forces in Sari, Mazandaran Province on Saturday.
About 100 people are currently on trial in Iran, facing charges of involvement in plans by foreign countries and opponents of the Islamic Republic to engineer a “soft collapse” of the Islamic system and involvement in foreign interference in the post-election unrest.
The fact that Islam and the principles of the Islamic Revolution have been neglected in the years since the 1980–1988 Iran-Iraq war was one of the factors that provided opportunities for the enemies, Jafari said.
